KAUKAUNA, Wis. (June 21, 2023) – St. Paul Elder Services (SPES), a community dedicated to enriching the life experience of the individuals they serve, invites the community to join its fundraising efforts for the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day, an effort to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s on the day with the most light – the summer solstice, June 21. SPES is hosting an annual silent art auction from Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23 and a community brat fry on Wednesday, June 28 from 4–8 p.m. Both events will be at the SPES Kaukauna campus, located at 316 E. 14th Street (map).
The silent art auction is especially unique, as it features the creative expressions of those living with dementia in the community and on the St. Paul campuses. As a provider specialized in memory care, SPES boasts a unique program called “Passages” that assists both individuals living with dementia, and their families, at any stage of the illness. Specially trained staff members provide guidance, support and facilitate activities, like art, with the goal of maintaining individual life skills for as long as possible.
“We’ve found that creative expression through art is a powerful opportunity for people living with dementia. It is not unusual for them to express memories from long ago or memories they can no longer find the words to share,” said Becky Reichelt, executive vice president at St. Paul Elder Services. “We have outstanding life enrichment and therapeutic recreation teams that facilitate opportunities for people living with dementia to create their own messages, and that’s what you’ll see on display during our silent auction.”
SPES is proud of its strong and ongoing commitment to improving the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and has additionally invested in sponsorship of the Alzheimer’s Association Gala, the Fox Valley Memory Project’s Living Life Fundraiser and is participating in the Walk To End Alzheimer’s-Fox Cities in 2023.
