Recently, we were privileged to welcome Cyan Reed, a visiting postulant with the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, to our Kaukauna campus. A postulant is a woman in the early stage in the process of becoming a religious sister. Cyan’s time with us was a mission experience—part of her spiritual formation as she continues her journey toward becoming a sister.
The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, who also sponsor St. Paul Elder Services, are rooted in the teachings of St. Francis. These sisters take on roles as nurses, teachers, social workers, and more, guided by their shared mission to care for others. Their sponsorship of our organization reflects their dedication to compassionate service, values we are proud to embody in our care for those we serve.
Cyan’s Path to St. Paul Elder Services
A Houston native, Cyan first became interested in religious life after attending an event with a religious community in her teens. However, she took time to gain life experience before making her religious commitment.
For several years, Cyan worked in nonprofits, developing programs for housing the homeless and coordinating volunteers through Catholic Charities in Houston. She thrived in these roles, but as she achieved her professional goals, she felt an even deeper call to dedicate her life to service.
“It wasn’t until I got everything that I wanted—I was making good money, I was doing what I love, which is helping the homeless and helping people volunteer, that I realized I’m still unsatisfied because I have this other call,” reflected Cyan.
That calling led her to the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
During her stay at our Kaukauna campus, Cyan had the opportunity to work with our social workers and sisters, gaining insight into the personalized care we offer to our residents and everyone we serve.
Cyan is also currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in social work through Marian University, preparing herself to continue to help people from all walks of life.
What Does Sponsorship by the Franciscan Sisters Mean for St. Paul Elder Services?
For us at St. Paul Elder Services, being sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity is more than a guiding principle—it is the heart who we are. Their values of service, humility, and compassion shape every aspect of our work. These Franciscan principles also fuel our commitment to fostering a community where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
Cyan’s visit perfectly embodies this shared purpose; her dedication to a life of compassionate service not only mirrors the values we hold but also serves as a reminder of the impact that care and community can have. We are grateful for the opportunity to play a small role in her path and to have seen our shared values come to life through her.
