St. Paul Elder Services (SPES), a community dedicated to enriching the life experience of the individuals they serve, is proud to celebrate 80 years of caring this month. Founded on September 13, 1943, by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, St. Paul Elder Services has been an integral part of Kaukauna and the surrounding communities by growing and adapting its services to meet the changing needs of those they serve.
To celebrate this milestone anniversary, SPES is inviting the community to a series of events throughout the month of September at the Kaukauna campus, located at 316 E. 14th Street (map):
- September 13 from 2-4 p.m.: Cake and Ice Cream Social
- September 21 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Bake Sale
- September 27 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m.: Basket Raffle supporting the Alzheimer’s Association
“We are excited to celebrate this milestone with the community that has helped build our reputation as a caring and compassionate provider of care,” said Sondra Norder, president and CEO of St. Paul Elder Services. “We have always been ingrained in the fabric of Kaukauna, and it is that deep-rooted relationship that has allowed us to continuously evolve to meet the needs of those who need our services.”
Originally established as a visiting nurse center for the poor, St. Paul Elder Services quickly evolved to become St. Paul Home for the Aged, providing a safe and comfortable home for elderly women, including Mrs. Edith Grignon from the family whose mansion is a historic landmark in Kaukauna. Mrs. Grignon moved into St. Paul Home on September 13, 1943, marking the official beginning of St. Paul Elder Services, now celebrated as Founder’s Day.
Over the years, SPES has grown to offer care at two campuses, in Kaukauna and Green Bay, and provides a full continuum of health care including:
