SPES Sponsors Continued Education Credits at FVACPP’s Annual Summit 2023

St. Paul Elder Services (SPES), a community dedicated to enriching the life experience of the individuals it serves, is pleased to announce that it is the Continuing Education sponsor at the Fox Valley Advance Care Planning Partnership’s ACP Summit 2023 taking place on November 2, 2023. In its role of sponsor, SPES is supporting local social workers, helping to offer some of their state-required continuing education credits at the seminar. This seminar is worth 4.5 credits, which can contribute to the total of 30 that Wisconsin social workers are required to obtain every two years.

The virtual event is focused on advance care planning efforts, which is the process of preparing for future health care decisions. Social workers are crucial players in advance care planning as they help to navigate the complexities of healthcare decisions and are advocates for patients and their families. According to a study by the National Institute of Health, only 36.7% of adults have taken the time to engage in the advance care planning process, a number that SPES hopes to see increase through this and other local awareness efforts.

“Advance care planning is about empowering individuals to make decisions about their medical care before a crisis occurs. It is not just about planning for end-of-life care, but also about ensuring that individuals receive care that aligns with their values, wishes and beliefs,” Becky Reichelt, executive vice president at St. Paul Elder Services. “As a health care organization, we understand how crucial it is to have these conversations, and our own nursing home, assisted living and hospice teams rely on the expertise of social workers. By supporting their continued education and the annual ACP Summit, we’re not just investing in our associates, but also in those we serve in the Fox Cities community.”

The ACP Summit is open to anyone who wants to learn more or who is in the process of advance care planning. In addition to social workers, this includes community members, medical and clinical staff, senior caregivers, corporate HR, insurance, legal and financial advisors and more.
